The October release of the European Commission’s “Apply AI” strategy identifies healthcare as a key sector needing accelerated digital transformation. This view is reflected in this year’s Polish Prix Galien nominations, which prominently featured solutions in AI, innovative therapeutics, biotechnology, non-invasive coronary artery diagnostics, preventive health programs, and clinical decision-support platforms.
Prix Galien is an international distinction, often called the “medical Nobel”, granted to products, technologies, and discoveries with a demonstrable impact on improving standards of care and diagnosis. The award celebrates projects that directly address the leading challenges in healthcare, as defined by European institutions and the World Health Organization. In 2025, Prix Galien is particularly aligned with the idea of “Apply AI”: only the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence tools and cross-sector collaboration can ensure further advances in modern diagnostics and treatment.
We are proud that both innovative startups and leading international organizations were recognized, highlighting the growing competitiveness of Poland’s MedTech sector. According to industry reports and event organizers, a record number of AI, telemedicine, and mHealth projects were submitted in Poland in 2025, with special emphasis on non-invasive cardiac diagnostics, oncology, and metabolic diseases. The award covers several categories, including innovative pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies, rare disease therapies, medical technologies, startup innovation, health programs, and second-generation products.
In the “Best Innovative Startup” category, nominees included Commi RECO (healthcare communication tools), EndoMe (endometriosis support for women), our Cardiolens® platform (non-invasive coronary diagnostics), and MEDICO PZWL (clinical digital tool for healthcare professionals). These nominations directly address the EU’s identified trends – implementing AI where it can truly impact efficiency and safety in patient care.
As our CEO Tomasz Piec stated:
“Even with our experience, the road for a Polish startup is never easy, which makes this international recognition from the jury even more meaningful. It brings us immense satisfaction, but it’s also the beginning of the next phase – demonstrating that our solution works in the market and can genuinely compete with global leaders.”
It is also worth noting that an American competitor, offering similar solutions, received only an honorable mention this year – emphasizing the outstanding nature of our team’s success amid fierce international competition.
According to Tomasz Piec, the award powerfully confirms the value of developing non-invasive, precise cardiac diagnostics – solutions that not only align with global trends, but also lower health system costs and improve safety for patients with coronary disease.
Coronary artery disease continues to be one of the most common and deadly diseases in both Europe and worldwide. WHO and EU Commission data show that it accounts for over 40% of all cardiovascular deaths, the leading cause of death in the European region. Efficient, rapid, and non-invasive diagnostics for CAD are a top priority – for patient safety, treatment effectiveness, and health system costs.
The latest “Study on the Deployment of AI in Healthcare” (EU, 2023) indicates that 72% of surveyed European hospitals and diagnostic centers have implemented or are eager to implement AI in non-invasive medical imaging, especially for CAD. The authors note that integrating AI tools can not only improve specialist precision but also reduce time-to-result and unnecessary, invasive procedures.
As Tomasz Piec adds:
“AI will never fully replace clinicians, but with robust algorithms and smart engineering, it can provide vital support and open new possibilities for patients and healthcare teams.”
This year’s Prix Galien Poland showed that digitization and AI adoption are now the foundation of modern healthcare. The nominated solutions signal the rising technological maturity of Poland’s MedTech sector. Prix Galien not only rewards medical pioneers, but also emphasizes Poland’s growing role in European innovation, helping our healthcare community implement solutions that meet European Commission guidelines and the “Apply AI” strategy – whether in diagnostic imaging or chronic care support.
